Default Queens crown Lancers

Hi All .Just a quick question. Apart from a/a badges are any of the metal Q.C badges ok, mainly i am thinking 16/5 Queens Royal Lancers as i believe they continued until 1993, the 9th and 12th between 53 and 60 i somehow doubt.
Thank you . Iain

There was a metal Q/C 9th Lancers but not an issued a/a one: They were faked by John Gaylor.

The 16th/5th wore metal k/c and then replaced them with Q/C a/a which they wore up to amalgamation. I don't know if privately purchased metal ones. It would depend on regimental customs.

I know from a good friend that the Royal Hussars wore a/a up to the 1990's but then there was regimental meeting where it was agreed they could buy metal ones if they all agreed to wear them on berets.

I have anodised aluminium and bimetal Royal Hussars cap badges given to me during the 90's by an ex sergeant in the unit, he explained that the anod were issued and the bimetal were purchased by all and actually worn.

Some of the QDG metal badges are good. Sketchley Kid will know better as to which. The a/a wasnt popular as often replaced by a private purchase badge. If I recall correctly, the chrome version became the issue item in the early 90s.

A note I made decades ago was that Gaylor states the chromed badge was worn by 1 KDG as well as 1 QDG but that this was probably a mistake.
Jamie Bruntlett' dealers list of November 1988 had the chromed badge listed as 1 KDG, again, I'd noted this was probably a mistake.

A Dowler Birmingham slidered chromed badge I have was acquired (from a an ex senior NCO of RMP I think he was) in June 1984.

Leigh have a look at this thread.
I have an example of this badge and a similarly maker marked bimetal Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.

I was REME attached 16th/5th during the 70's. The AA badge was the standard issue (Queen's crown), but a bi-metal badge was also worn, and was much prized. Remember this was before the computer age and online auction houses. As far as memory serves they were unofficial but permitted to be worn (a few were even KC badges). I can't remember if they were a PRI purchase item of private purchase. Our metalsmith was often asked to braze the lance tips back on!
