Bloody Oath
I cant believe they went for those prices I though I had a good chance at 200 given I have an RMA OSD Gaunt badges which I bought for 70 quid. RM items just seem to be going through the roof ! Many thanks for info Gents I'm off to sell a kidney before the next auction cheers Steve |

With small crossed cannons exceptionally rare - I stand to be corrected but think John Atherton, who owned the badges, had dated them 1921-1923 only. I had the pleasure of visiting John to see his collection - others on this Forum will have seen it too, as he also used to attend reunions and display his badges. I am pleased his family are benefiting from this sale and that prices were so strong. The reserve was 'come and get me' - for sure rather than a 'guide' price.

Post 87 has a photo of the crossed cannons in use. They date it to 1919. |

Many thanks for taking the trouble to respond - I believe you make reference to post 1D 87. The central Officer is wearing the larger pattern crossed cannons The difference in size is best illustrated on the rmhistorical site - please see RMA section - top centre image - page 7 - RMA http://www.rmhistorical.com/images/Cap%20Badges.pdf - please see page 7 of this link Narrative for the picture mentions smaller cannons from 1921 too. I must say that the globe and laurel below does not look like Officer Silver and Gilt, but the size of both types of crossed cannon are well illustrated. - Update - just realised the badge referred to in the link (Page 7 - top row - centre) is OSD Bze so that makes sense Mike Last edited by Mike B; 02-06-16 at 03:21 PM.
