doh!
Just out of interest I always seem to have difficulty deciphering between the 2 kings crowns. Is there a way of telling the difference they seem very similar to an untrained eye such as mine. I bought it ages ago as just like it so much. |

There is only one King's Crown.

Oh right well that would explain why I can’t tell the difference again maybe a very silly question how can you tell what era some of the badges are from? I mean with some of the sweetheart badges if silver you have the hallmark to date it and of course Gv or GVI on some are a bit of a give away. But out side of that how can you tell?

By comparing the sweetheart badge's design to the actual military badge and its date of introduction. This tank unit's name went from Tank Corps (1917) to Royal Tank Corps (1923) to Royal Tank Regiment (1939) with changes in badge design to match.

Wow that’s really interesting. So with this badge you can tell it’s not WW1 by the design? I have a couple of Kenneth William Jermin sweetheart brooches book and military badge collecting book. What’s you views on these as reference books?

If those books didn't help you with narrowing down a date they are obviously not up to the task. It's all about the research, see here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/bo...bliography.htm
I'd suggest to start with both volumes of Kipling & King. And search the forum, a powerful and useful source of info. Rgds, Thomas |
