Another interest of mine - WW1 Maps
Hi Guys,
Here's another interest of mine. I've been collecting WW1 maps used by Australians or British trench maps that show Australian units. Am always on the look out for others. Especially is they have positions, trenches or units marked on them. Some of these show the location of Divisional and Corps attacks, enemy battery location and the last one is an artillery barrage map I think that was used for the Battle of Menin Road. Enjoy! Mick

Thanks for sharing Mick. Almost started collecting WW1 maps myself back in the 90s, got married instead and I think you could guess why it never eventuated. Still, you can't beat items like these that have so much history and are directly connected to these important times in history.

They are fantastic Mick, I'm a bit of a map freak myself although have nothing as nice as yours. I could spend hours looking at those.

I have had, in my hands, maps carried by an Officer at 2nd Ypres (Frezenberg) used on the days of battle (12-14 May 1915). He was shot through the left lung and survived the battle and the war. Blood still on the maps. Its an amazing feeling holding something (and looking at) that was there.
I am always interested in "Trench System" maps.

It just makes all the locations you read about when studying the Great War that little bit more "real" if that makes sense. |

Thanks guys - you don't see these pop up very often these days.
Though being ex Cav, I am impressed by Jack's Beersheba one. Would love one used in the charge Mick

Thanks Jack - very nice.
My favourite of all the maps I have is the one for the Battle of Messines. Marked Secret, it shows the locations of the big underground mines and also the attack of the German positions. This is the next one I intend to get framed. Mick
