Default Something different - RDF milk jug

Hello,

I just wanted to share one interesting piece that I picked up today. This mug is most likely from officer’s mess. Unfortunately previous owner had an “accident” with it and therefore it is now clued together from pieces. Still rare old item of great Irish regimental history and I am delighted to have it in my humble collection.

Thanks for looking,

Timo

Hello Timo

A very nice item.

I bet it is a lot rarer than some of their cap badges! Probably not as valuable though especially since its 'accident'!

A really nice find, Timo. And exceptionally rare too, I'd say. Although, I doubt earthenware would adorn the officers' mess - it ain't silver, you see!

Best,

Marcus

I think you have a point there Marcus! A bit too basic for officers! Perhaps it was on the bar in the sergeants mess or similar, just used to water down their drinks a little!!

Great point Marcus. I "downgrade" it to sergeants mess jug then . Still, I am delighted - never seen anything like that before!

There are experts out there who could restore this to museum condition. I have seen the before and after on a Victorian jug that a ceramics restorer has worked on and honestly you could not see the join. Expensive mind.
