Default Bedfordshire unkown

Please can anyone identify the white metal shield shaped badge pictured?
The Arms are those of Bedford but who wore it?

The badge measures 24x28mm. It did have N-S lugs but these are missing.

I have pictured it with a pre-1881 16th Foot collar badge (Churchill 499) for size comparison.

The spread eagle and castle was worn by the Bedfordshire Yeomanry, and rumours have persisted on them having an arm badge, but so far I have yet to see conclusive evidence of this (The badge shown in WilkinsonFig211 is now thought to be a Bedfordshire Vol collar badge).

Thanks for looking, Stephen.
