Malta Artillery
This badge is solid brass striking. It's an excellent striking, looks good. There is also a QEII brass badge on ebay right now. I've never seen this before in brass, were they worn in brass? If so when? Thanks in advance as always.

RA WW1 Economy
I picked this one up at Bangor on Saturday. I hadn't seen one before with the wire reinforcement behind the crown. I see it also has the folded back slider, and doesn't have the moving wheel. I suspect it may be an economy issue item, but am prepared to be guided on the subject if I am wrong. It has been well polished over the years and is slightly worn down. I thought it was too nice to miss.

Circa 1954 a KC all gilding metal beret size (1 7/8" w by 1 1/2"h) badge was produced but it was never officially issued and any that were, were quickly withdrawn. In 1954 the Crown changed to the Queen's crown and an anodized version was introduced subsequently for other ranks. Rgds, fougasse1940. |

Would anyone be so kind as to help me out by identifying the years/period of this particular badge?
as an ex serving gunner myself, I'm very much ashamed to say i have very limited knowledge on cap badge variants/dates. any help would be greatly appreciated. it has a moving wheel, with a hub in the centre. RA1.jpg RA2.jpg |

The King's Crown certainly means pre-1953. I have noticed that the moving-wheel RA badge normally commands a bit higher price than the non-moving wheel version.

Gilt and bronze badges for Officers also had the extra wheel. I have added some reproduction RA gun badges to my FAKES & REPROS album, they were all purchased in the 1970's for £1 each from the same manufacturer. |

Both the first pattern large (cap) and small (beret) badges were issued without an aditional wheel. Both the second pattern large (cap) and small (beret) badges have the aditional wheel. The Royal Artillery Association Shop at one time sold the first pattern large (cap) badge with the aditional wheel, this badge was produced for them, it was not an issued item. |

First pattern, lots of detail.
Second pattern, loss of most of the detail. Royal Artillery Association. Officers version used to be produced in aa. Last edited by 54Bty; 09-02-22 at 05:30 PM. |
