BillG's East Anglian Thread.
Anyone know where I can obtain a pair of 3rd East Anglian Regt. collar badges please? These would be the Salamanca Eagle within the Garter.
Much obliged for any asistance, Bill |

I originally thought lew shotton had a pair
285 R ANGLIAN REG 3rd BATT ANO £2# but they are royal anglian - (much more common I assume if a different badge?) but worth bookmarking and checking the same page now and again - think it's due an update? and having thought about it a bit more probably going to be a bit more expensive!! 3rd E. Ang R. only 1958-64 ??? (1st 59-64 & 2nd 60-64) and on ebay the other day a Royal Anglian set : I guess they must be the disbanded 3rd Btn ("Pompadours" 1964-92) as the 1st btn are wearing the castle collar and the 2nd the sphinx. ( are they similar to the Garter/Eagle 3rd East Anglian type ??)

question fro you Bill, why did the first regiment formed become the 3rd and not the 1st East Anglian? something to do with the old "Foot Regiment" designations? or is there another reason?

I suspect that the whereabouts of the amalgamating regiments may have had something to do with the sequence of numbering. I know 3/E Ang. were comprised of 16th/44th Foot, (Beds & Herts and Essex) but I really don't know the answer to the question.
The East Anglian Regiments only lasted for 6 years, it hardly seemed worth the trouble of forming them, or producing their badges come to that, but then who knows the reasoning that goes on within the corridors of power? The 3 E Ang. collar badges were a golden eagle within the silver garter, staybright or anodized, I'm not sure of the exact terminology that applies. As one might expect, because of the short life-span of the East Anglian Regiments, trying to locate any of their badges is proving rather difficult. Best Regards, Bill. |

From the appearance of the badge I would suggest that it is probably an officer's cap badge wiith the two lugs on the reverse. Us ordinary squaddies had the anodized/staybright badge with the slide in clip on the back.

Bill, I presume these are the ones, these in silver and gilt? Not for sale though I'm afraid.

Very nice Keith. So whats the design difference between the 3rd East Anglian and 3rd Royal Anglian collars - staybright vs. staybright of course not counting your flashy S&G versions

There was no change in uniforms apart from the change in cap badge.

I've been having a look at the old foot regiment numbers and it fits: 1st East Anglian = 9th and 12th foot 2nd East Anglian= 10th and 48th/58th foot 3rd East Anglian = 16th and 44th/56th foot they must have been thinking 4 years ahead when they were amalgamating that lot.

so Bill doesn't have any problem then , there would be no difference between 3rd east and 3rd royal. 2 quid each from lew shotton then
