New names for SA regiments
Read it and weep...
https://www.defenceweb.co.za/feature...ce-unit-names/ Among the names set to disappear are Cape Town Highlanders, Transvaal Scottish, Witwatersrand Rifles, Regiment de la Rey, Prince Alfred’s Guard, Regiment de Wet, SA Irish Regiment, Natal Carbineers, Transvaal Horse Artillery and others. |

Politically correct nonsense with no respect for previous heritage nor for the history written by these fine regiments.
Can't wait until we have the Jeremy Corbyn Fusiliers, Gerry Adams Rangers and Tony Blair Rifles - what a load of BS. South Africa I share your pain. PL |

Sad day indeed, at least they haven't been disbanded like the Commando's (around 2005?) Regards Mark

Why replace with political names? It's enough to make you weep.

Well, at least the badge manufacturers are set for an increase in their business. I suspect that within ten years they will revert to their old names again. What goes around comes around (hopefully)!

The problem is the regiments often rely on their history to attract volunteers. They may not be around in 10 years, which might be the underlying aim here.
Also, some of the new badges for these regiments are rubberised plastic, so not much chance for huge profits there... |
