That certainly is an interesting item, it is a button of the South Cork Militia, it will date from the period 1793 - 1854. The South Cork were allotted the number 32 on 8th Aug. 1793.
I asume it ended up in Canada, which if lost on service (rather than lost from a collection or personal belongings) would be very interesting indeed. The Regimental History of the South Cork Light Infantry Militia is by G.S. Ormerod, Regimental Records of the Third Battalion of the Royal Munster Fusiliers (Cork: Purcell, 1906). I believe it is available from the Latter Day Saints archive film #0824226 if anyone interested wants to follow up if the South Cork had any official involvement in Canada. John |

Hi John
The seller lists this as a dug item, although it looks to be in very good condition for that. THE AUCTION FOR THIS BUTTON IS 160259424502, AND THERE IS ANOTHER ITEM # 160682598441 Ray Last edited by boots and saddles; 10-07-08 at 06:27 PM. |
