Formation sign, Far East, but what?
These scissor formation signs are being worn by a Sergeant in the Cameron Highlanders. The photograph was possibly taken in India. Can anyone please tell me what they represent?

I think that this formation sign doesn't exist but was artistic licence employed by whoever hand coloured the photograph. The 1st battalion Cameron Highlanders were part of the 2nd Division and served in Burma. I think that this sign is a loose interpretation of the cross keys of the 2nd Division.

Here is an identical photograph from the same source, uncoloured and unretouched. This time the sergeant appears to have the Cameron Highlanders cap badge on his sleeves. |

It looks to me that someone I the process, the 2 Inf Div signs have been censored out and much later restored, albeit with a failing memory of the design of crossed keys. 1 Camerons certainly served in 5 Inf Bde, 2 Inf Div from Feb 40 - Aug 45 and later in BCOF Japan in 25 Inf Bde. Mike
