EAASC
I've had the East African Army Service Corps badges in the attached photos for some while. Recently I've read that the Essex Yeomanry (as arty) had 'Basuto' attached to them in 1943 in a supply role.
Can anyone please confirm that the Basuto personnel would have originally been from the EAASC? Thanks, Stephen. PS- The makers name on the slider reads 'WALIMOHD & Co NAROBI'- one for the makers mark index. PPS- I have a spare cap badge in the sales section if anyone is interested. |

Hiya Stephen,
Firstly I'd like to say, great badges, & S/T's All I can tell you is that the EAASC had a wide diversity of drivers during the 1940-1941 campaign in East Africa. They were also involved in the desert campaign, as well as Sicily and Italy. Their drivers coming from East & West Africa, Rhodesia and Southern Africa. On this basis I would believe that a portion of drivers employed would have come from "Basutoland", and would have been employed along the LoC's, and in Arty support. In 1941 the RASC had a large number of Officers & other ranks employed in the EAASC, yet no RASC units were deployed in theatre. At the moment I have no list of units and locations of the EAASC, but if I do get hold of a list, I'll update you on this. Sorry I can't help you more Regards Ken (The Fatboy)
