RNR Ratings buttons

Hi to all,
Does the RNR button worn by ratings come in horn (black) for Class III ratings?

The only photo of RNR black buttons I've seen is the attached of an Engineman [RNR Trawler Reserve]. The crown and anchor is smaller than usual with R.N.R. in block capitals above. Whether they are issue or not I don't know as I have never come across them elsewhere.

This is the RNR Trawler Section button.
All RNR buttons I have ever seen (officiers, petty officers) are gilt.

Yes, now I look at the photo again with a loupe there is a T below the RNR & no crown as in your post.

This is a RNR Class I ratings button with a lined background and plain rim. In my mind it makes sense that they made them in horn as well but I haven't seen one yet.

Are you sure? As far as I know these are for Chief Petty Officers, not for ratings.

Ratings came in three Classes.
Class I ratings were CPOs and wore gilt buttons.
Class II ratings were ratings that crewed the ship. Most of whom were dressed as seamen. Those not dress as seamen in this class wore gilt buttons.
Class III ratings were those that administered to the ships needs and wore horn buttons.

Class I, II and III refers to the uniform not the rating.

Class I worn by Senior Rates (POs from 1920)
Class II worn by ratings dressed as seamen, buttons not applicable.
Class III worn by ratings not dressed as seamen ie Writers. Black buttons.

I would have to disagree with this.

The Uniform Regulations for Chief Petty Officers, Petty Officers, Men, and Boys of the Fleet, and for Boys in the Training Establishment April 1913 uses terms like -
The dress to be worn by Classes I, and III,.......
and
Uniform of Chief Petty Officers (Class I.)
and
Uniform of Petty Officers and Men Dressed as Seamen (Class II)
and
Uniform for Class III.

It may be different in the today's navy.
