RN Fleet Air Arm - Air Engineer patch
Hi all,
Would like to run this patch through here as well - I am confident that it's original (I assume they don't fake common patches yet?) but what period it could date? Around end of 1940s/1950s? Also any hints what to look out in order to determine their age? Thanks, Timo

Air Engineering Mechanic
Badge looks good and in use from 1959 until, certainly the 1990s. I left the RN in 1993 so it could be obsolete now The AE stands for Airframes and Engines, replacing the A badge and the E badge as two previous separate branches.

Naval Air Mechanic
Hello Phaethon,
I wore this badge for 5 years, before changing branch to the Safety Equipment branch in 1974. I left the RN in April 1992 after 24 years service, then in 1994, I joined the RNR (Air Branch)and served a further 16 years. The NAM(AE) badge, had been superseded and become the Air Engineering Mechanic (Mechanical) AEM(M). Hello John, long time no see. Regards Malcolm. |
