RCAF "Edmonton Squadron" T Birds Patch -Help!

Hey Guys,

Picked this up today pinned to an old British Patriotic flag. It says "Edmonton Squadron" T Birds, with two 12's on each side. Would this be a trade patch or worn on a jacket? If anyone had any info on the squadron itself I would appriciate it.

Not 100% sure but I would make "book" that what you have is a jacket crest from a senior NCO who was a member of #12 Air Cadet squadron, from yesteryear.

The air cadet squadron "leading lights" from many eras were famous (notorious?) for creating dazzling-looking jacket crests to wear to school and impress their girlfriends.

At the start of the T-bird era, #10 Repair Depot, #11 Equipment Depot and 403 Squadron (and a radar unit) were in Calgary, while Edmonton was the home of RCAF Northwest Air Command (ref: Calgary Herald, front page, Saturday, January 22, 1949) and 418 Squadron.

The only #12 Squadron in Edmonton (not a repair or maintenance depot, or the like) was with the air cadets, from 24 September 1941 to the present (this is why #12 had such a low number, as did #7 Markerville at Penhold).

I hope this tidbit is not seriously deflating!

Not deflating at all! I should post some more patches on this section you guys might find interesting too. Thanks for helping me out, I wasn't sure exactly what it was from but had a general idea that it was off a jacket, offical or not

Just a little note of clarification - the Royal Canadian Air Cadets is very similar to the Air Training Corps in Britain and the Civil Air Patrol Cadets in the US.
