Hi HMPbadges,
A rare sight indeed, prison staff wearing hats and doing an escort !!!I wonder did they just have to walk from the prison to the court in Jersey or did they use a vehicle? Thanks for posting. Hwyl Bantam |

La Moye Prison Jersey
They would have used a vehicle, it would probably have been a police van, with a police driver, or possibly the purpose built 'Prison van' still with a police driver though.
La Moye prison is about 5 miles away from the Royal Court. Jermil |

Hi Jermil,
Firstly thank you for the information re. Jersey prison escorts. The "Poppy Pins"are very nice and very collectible items in thier own right. The buttons I would very much like to own as well as the shoulder slide.I would love to have them in my collection. Many thanks, Hwyl Bantam |

Bantam,
Jermil is the man to talk to. I bought a full set of buttons (Prison/Police) from him about 10 years ago via PICA and he has an absolutey excellent website, it's fantastic. It's all about Jersy (C.I), and rightly so, but our field is well represented on there. It's just a great site and has inspired me to do something like that myself now. Post your web link Jermil!

And Bantam, I can't find the origional post we spoke about the WWI prison badge upon where you said it may be a rank badge, but this is my one(s). Jermil may like this as they used it in the C.I as well.

Hi HMPbadges,
Here is a attachment of a George V voided badge. As I have stated before the version you are showing is a common Warrant Officers rank insignia badge the original does not have a lip and also the folds of the felt behind the fluer de lys are differnt.I have a photo of an officer dating post 1910 when this variant of the badge came into use.The officer was John Durgan and worked at Portland. Hi HMPbadges,
If you look at the George V badge in both my John Durgan and your Arthur Atkins photo you will note besides not having a lip at the bottom of the badge it is also horizontal and not eliptical exactly as in my badge. Hwyl Bantam. |

My hands are held up high Bantam, I am wrong.
I have three of these (the ones i have shown). Years ago i was dubious about the first I got, but was assured, with documentation, that the others were genuine. Do you think that the no lip at the bottom supports the claim that some of these were cut from regimental or police helmet plates, or were they a directly made pattern for Prison Warders? Can you show your badge next to another HMP badge to judge it's size?
