Default CF-18 model

I recently picked up this aluminum model of a CF-18, it is about 1/48 scale and made from what appears to be aircraft aluminum. There are no makers marks, the model can swivel on a ball and can be displayed at any angle. Serial no 901 is now at the Ottawa Air Museum.
One friend stated that it may be a wind tunnel model, or maybe a presentation piece.

I would love to find something like this for my father. He worked on the Ground support software and testing stations for the CF-18.
