Hi Malc,
The hangover is now worn off and I have obviously spent too much time on this site that I'm beginning to have doubts about this badge. Yes,the lugs are correct but the overall look of it is very fresh. The badge itself is a well known to have been copied in the other ranks pattern and is sold by The Regimental Museum. Although I have never seen one Jeremy Tenniswood makes officers copies for reenactors.I also thought that the Officers Glengarry to this regiment latterly South Wales Borderers was as KK 459.Yet again without seeing the badge and handling it I would not confirm it as genuine at first hand. Only you know the provenance and you have not written a lot about it. Look forward to your comments. Regards Bantam |

I got the badge from a dealer who i trust and i am happy with, K&K 459 I don't think is an officers as they mention it is brass and do not mention it as an Officers pattern. Cheers Malc

Hi Malc,
Thats is what its all about. You are happy that you've bought a genuine badge from a reputable dealer who you trust. As I said without seeing the badge close up and the background to it I thought you might have been testing us out. It is a rare badge to find in that condition.Lucky you, well done. Regards Bantam. |

Malc,
This is my Officers' Glengarry to the 24th. I'd always understood this to be the only Officers pattern and it would appear to match the description for the Officers' Helmet Plate 1871-1881 as given on page 103 K&K. I will make a point of checking when I'm next up at Brecon. I've also added an Officers' Forage Cap Badge for a Militia or Volunteer Battn as worn between 1881-1904 after they became the SWB. It is exactly the pattern as that worn by the regulars but obviously in silver. Regards, Kevin Last edited by 41st; 22-03-08 at 05:39 PM. |
