Back in the 70's we wore them in Rhodesia. We called them "floppy hats". There were official issue and unofficial. My wife made me one from a pair of came trousers, which was but better than the official ones.

Called many things such as Jungle Cap, Boonie Hat, Bush Hat etc...
Official British Designation is 'Hat, Combat, Tropical' and is intended for warm weather use. Latest version also has a neck cover. |

The MTP neck cover is universally thrown away on issue. I did see on Fijian wearing it but he was the only one. The majority of soldiers get a tailor to reduce the size of the brim and shorten the crown.
