Default Hertfordshire Regiment Cap Badges - real or fake?

Dear all,

Apologies for putting yet another post on about Hertfordshire Regiment badges, I have looked at the existing posts but am still uncertain as to whether the attached badges (numbered 1 - 3) are genuine or fake and would appreciate any info / advice as to whether they are real or not.

Badge 1 - looks potentially crudely cast.

Badge 2 - the slider seems to be joined to the badge in a strange way, plus this joint appears very shiny / unusual / possibly fake.

Badge 3 - Looks genuine, but very battered, almost as if someone has unsuccessfully tried to modify it / make trench art out of it! Needs straightening out.

Badges 1 and 2 have the dots (between the wording) and the horns in the same place, whereas badge 3 has these in a different place and is therefore a bit different.

All of these 3 badges are solidly made and the metal is fairly thick.

Any guidance would be much appreciated, especially if someone could explain the difference between a genuine and fake Hertfordshire Regiment Badge.

Many thanks and best regards.

The only one I really like is number 3. I have a wide antler version the same as your number 1, but remain skeptical regarding it.

Badge 2 and 3 are most certainly original. Is there any chance of a close up of badge 1 please? If it has a small imperfection above the right antler, below the "H" then it is not original.

I have shown a couple of images of fake Hertfordshire badges below and as far as I am aware there are only two fake dies being used. The Queen's crown badge is a fake that came from the "Ron collection" that he had made up, but I think that I have the only one. Arrows illustrate what to look out for.

Also, I often hear reference two either "wide antler" or "narrow antler" variants. This is an outdated reference that was coined years ago by collectors and is incorrect. The Hertfordshire Regiment badge was worn for many years and has several variants. I have catalogued 17 so far and they vary from narrow to wide with several inbetween. Some have dots and some don't.

Apologies for the old pictures, but I hope that they will help somewhat.

Badges 2 & 3 are fine & just as Nozzer said badge 1 doesn't look promising for the points raised, I'd say not good but a better picture should confirm.
