Excuse the mounting residue on the back.

Well Phil, both wings are indeed very much alike.
I am impatient to get more opinions. Best, Dominique |

Here is a picture of the wing in my collection.
All that I know about it is what I have read in W. Carrol's book Eagles Recalled. Does anyone have an example in their collection that shows any sign of being worn? |

the WOG wing affair.
Hello,
Thank you for the pictures & this most interesting documentation. Here is the 2nd WOG wing I have in my possession. It appears to be of slight better quality. The white thread is not cotton made... Questions remain. Regards to all, Dominique |

I am confident a war time photo of an airman wearing the WOG wing will show up, just a matter of time I imagine.

It is noted that the all wings pictured here show traces of gluing on the back...

My WOG wing.
On the question of them being worn, all those I've seen, including those here, have been in used/worn condition. I've yet to see a mint one, so assume they have all seen use. |

This one too appears to have been glued at one point, doesn't it?

Not sure what you mean by glued. If you are talking about the pink smudge, that was where a previous owner had stuck it in an album. There is no glue on the badge itself, which seems to be the same with the badges above.

Please forgive my broken English. By "glued" I meant that most of the wings pictured here appear to have been stuck to an album (or something else) and show some glue residue on reverse.
BTW, does your wing glow under black light? Enjoy the balance of your weekend, Dominique |

David, These show up on ebay from time to time.
If you get one, please let me know if it glows under black light... Regards, Dominique |

UV threads
I took a look at the back of my WOG's under UV (UVSL 15 Mineralight) and they all demonstrate portions which glow white. Specifically, the long single threads, when intact, are very bright but the central portion of the wings always seem to glow. I have no explanation. You generally don't see this in any WII issued wings as others have noted.
I'm not sure how this photo will turn out and it doesn't accurately reflect the degree of fluorescence in real lighting conditions. The attached image I think is much brighter than when viewed in reality. Interesting topic and very useful information discussed. Thank you all for your input. |
