Royal 22e Regiment - 1940
Youtube video showing the R22eR on guard duty at Buckingham Palace.
They are wearing their metal shoulder titles with battledress. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H8ihCj08Q0 |

Thnx for posting this. I came across about 50 official photos of the VanDoos undergoing training for this. During the war there were several Canadian regiments that took over Public Duties. Clive

R22eR at Buckingham Palace
Interesting to see that they are marching without fixed bayonets and weapons at the slope on the right shoulder, then on the left shoulder and finally with fixed bayonets when at Buckingham Palace. I would be interested to know where they formed up prior to marching to Buckingham Palace and where the parade stopped in order to fix bayonets.
The drill for this event is certainly of a high quality and is a good indication of how the standard will improve in the early 1950s. |

Difficult to know where they initially formed up without bayonets fixed (it could have been Chelsea Barracks) but after marching through London Streets including Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square it is probable that they halted in Wellington Barracks in Birdcage Walk, fixed bayonets and then marched with the Band of the Grenadier Guards on to Buckingham Palace for Guard mounting.
