Boer War Wall Plaque
Here is a wall plaque at our office. Quite a few badges, Canadian, British & South African.
I have a bag with most of the badges that have fallen off, a good winter project to try to put it back together without causing any damage to the board. At this time it's not for sale. Jaime |

Wall plaque
A very interesting piece, I presume the loops and sliders if any were removed and the badges held in place by small brass tacks. This seems to be a popular way of displaying badges many years ago. Most of the badges and titles seem to fit into the pre 1902 era, but I notice that there is a KC Royal Artillery cap badge and a KC musicians arm badge among the display. Obviously this was completed post 1902.

Yes, you're right the fasteners have been removed & the badges are held in place with small tack nails. Most of the badges are pre 1902, a very nice plaque. We get many comments on it.
Here is a link to our website, with a few pictures of the new store ( much more has been added since I took these a few weeks ago, http://www.marway-militaria.com/loca...hours_etc_.htm Jaime |

Hi, A very nice set. Some nice South African badges too, pity about the lugs. If you want to move the SA badges, I'm always looking. Have fun.

Shield badges
This is a fascinating thread, many unanswered questions, the titles, 4/LG, 5/DG do not appear in Westlakes book, as there was only the first and second Life Guards is this artistic licence or were these combinations slouch hat badges? The 18H is larger than any titles shown in this book, again, a slouch hat badge? KH, another slouch hat badge? XIY could this be 10th Imperial Yeomanry? Is DFA Durban Field Artillery?
I would be interested on members thoughts. |

Dfa
This was worn by the Diamond Fields Field Arty, and maybe by other units. The slouch-hat badge was DFFA, sometimes taken for a s/t, but is really far too large for that.

The DFA is indeed Diamond Fields Artillery. The DFFA was worn for a short period only after the Boer War. The KH, I would say is Kitchener's Horse. There were many variations of the slouch hat badges as they were mainly hand made. This is indeed a nice board.

The Ordnance badge (upper left quadrant) is a left-hand collar badge for the Ordnance Department / Army Ordnance Corps. The Canadian equivalent has a beaver at the crest. The cannon are facing the "wrong way" for it to be a hat badge. Also, hat badges had a scroll at the bottom with either "Ordnance" (Department) or "Army Ordnance Corps". Issued 1907 and replaced 1918 when the RAOC was formed.
