Interestingly, Dress Regulations for the Army 1900 p 48 has a photo of the badge for the 7th Dragoon Guards that has the lion exactly the same as that being sold on ebay. ie the tail meets the lion's mane and does not curl over. In fact it is almost identical to that shown on the ebay reference above. It does however have a slider rather than three lugs.
Why is the ebay badge adjudged to be a wrong -un and Jeanpit -Frenchy's lion considered to be the "good" lion? Cheers Chris Last edited by Chrisr; 28-03-08 at 04:38 AM. |

from COX (only WW1)page 149 n°1221, KING and KIPLING page 202 and 203 n°749, GAYLOR badge plate 1
the lion from my badge WW1 your lion from KING and KIPLING, n°748 (all WM or SILVER or bronze = officier), GAYLOR plate 3 ...pattern pre 1906 perhaps your badge is a ww1 officier badge !!!!!! but now i only read it, i'm not a expert , books not always good ... but for cox (read all this morning ) , my badge only WM or silver or bZ not brass or GM .....my badge perhaps a fake. i dont know and for KING and KINPLING , my badge can be in gild or bz.....i will be crazy with books, all différent , where is the true ? best regards Last edited by jeanpit-frenchy; 28-03-08 at 06:44 AM. |

There were 2 badges with 2 distinct lions. Pre 1907 was inwhite metal and post 1907 was all brass.
The brass fakes have a very skinny goggle eyed lion unlike Jean-Pit's example which is the correct shape. The w/m one comes with lugs or sliders (and if the dating of the badge as pre 1907 is correct then this makes it one of the earliest slidered badges that can be dated before WW1. There is a slidered one shown in Wilkinson's book. This badge has been faked and there is one very distinct give away that is why i wold not buy the first one shown by Spencer on ebay. Alan |

Alan,
What is the very distinct give away? I have what I believe is a good-one but I now may be wrong? Chris |

This is the very distinct give away, there should be no void Cheers Malc |

Here is a scarce OSD post 1906 pattern.

Malc.
Thank you. I hadn't noticed that before. Fortunately mine doesn't have the void. I shall look more closely next time. Chris |
