Sabretache Badge Fittings
Does anyone know what type of fittings were used on the badges worn on sabretaches? Indeed was there anything approaching universal fittings for these items?
I have not handled any genuine examples and would presume that screw posts were the normal fitting in line with the fittings used often (but not exclusively) on pouch badges. Sabretache being the satchel worn on long straps by mounted personnel as an example see this line drawing http://www.chin.gc.ca/Parks/appli/it...03-00388&let=S thanks John |

Sabretache fittings
Hi John
From what I can gather you are asking if the badges/insignia on Sabretaches had screw posts or other. I have approx 9 or 10 of them in stock and every single one of them has screw post fittings for all badges/insignia that are attached to them. In general the nuts and screws are usually covered over with a leather facing but sometimes they are missing. I have seen locally a reproduction in a dealers hands who thinks it is real of a British Lancers sabretache which has long thin wires to hold the badge on that have been folded over and then faced with leather so that they don't look so obvious. An outright fake. The collector who sold it to him purchased it from a guy in California called British Collectibles. I am not sure if he new if it was original or not but he should have since this is what he does for a living. I hope this helps Dave |

yes this is exactly what I am asking, and thank you for your reply. Is there any pattern to the number of screw posts or does it appear to vary depending on the size of the badge? By default I would have thought that two was the norm. John |

Sabretaches
Hi John
No problems. Glad to be of assistance. The number of screw posts and thusly nuts depends on the size of the badge so there is no hard and fast rule from what I can see. Obviously the less screw posts the more chance of it falling/breaking off over time and abuse so I guess they figured when they made them that more was better. Dave |
