An ‘old chestnut’. Fake or fantasy.

If you have the patience wade through this thread!

I just read thru the thread. Wow stirred the storm right up didn't it. So to be clear, this badge is obviously a fake but not only a fake, a whole fantasy regiment also!?

Not a shock for me, I buy all sorts from all over the place and my knowledge in the military stiff isn't all that good, which is why I turn to you lot quite often. Thanks again

As you know I buy sell, mainly on ebay, so if anybody could tell me a suggested title? I was thinking something like "unknown Welsh regiment related military style fantasy badge"

It’s not Welsh. It is not connected to any Welsh regiments in any way or any other regiment whatsoever.

It’s a product of a forgers imagination.

‘Fake fantasy glengarry badge’ would be a good title.

With a description of ‘this badge never existed, doesn’t belong to any Regiment and was dreamt up in the 1970s by the fakers purely to deceive collectors’.

It isn’t even a space filler and has no value in my opinion beyond scrap.

Hi,
Have seen a photo of what looks like this badge being worn. which would have been worn in white metal, by the 4th Volunteers battalion South Wales Borderers signalling detachment. The photo has the soldiers wearing the normal 4th VBSWB and the type mentioned in this post in their glengarry’s.I believe the brass type was sold by the SWB museum at some point, don’t have an example in my collection, as I have never seen one that I would be happy to buy.(also seen a reference to the white metal version in the Bryn Owen notes in The SWB museum)
Thanks,
Eddie
