Default Liverpool pals 'cap' badge.

Good Afternoon.
I'm sure many members, at least while starting out, have bought a badge off the internet which when they receive it, turns out not to be original or even a cap badge. This is one of those tales. I purchased a badge from a dealer beleiving it to be, from the photographs and description, an early Liverpool pals brass solid backed looped ors' badge. Alas when it arrived I found it wasn't so. It wasn't even a cap badge! It was, it is, a Liverpool pals collar dog! Turned out to be a nice surprise. Don't think I'll be asking for a refund.

By the by. I'm not guilty of polishing to death the gm badge, it arrived like that.

Are we sure the badge is genuine, not an expert by any stretch but the bird looks over detailed, the baby is MIA and the gap between the birds legs always concerns me,

It is indeed an officer's collar badge, though it's lost most of it's original 'bronzed' patina. It has a nicely cast reverse as opposed to the very similar die struck ORs cap badge with similar loops.
And the separate legs confirm it. The only Liverpool Pals cap badge with separate legs is the OSD !

Rather late to this but I’m afraid your badge is actually a fake and not an officers collar despite the voided legs.

It is the ubiquitous ‘toucan with a mullet’ fake. Note the ridiculously fat toucan-like top beak, the outer edge of the wings doesn’t have feathers it’s just a line, and the classic fake rounded letter ends.

Currently well over a dozen of this type for sale on eBay with various fixings and finishes.

Even available in silver

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Certainly extremely late in the day, but, important to note that not all badges worn by officers of this regiment upon their Service Dress actually had "separate" legs.

I'd like to see one Frank

BTW the WO ordained that the Lpl Pals OR cap badges had a "bronzed" patina, many have had the patina worn (or scrubbed off) revealing a GM badge!

I have to be honest, I’d go as far as saying I’ve never seen a picture of an officer wearing collars that for certain had voided leg. Come to think of it nor do I recall ever seeing a genuine Liverpool Pals badge with voided legs…

Happy to be corrected.

I've been staring at a photograph sent to me ages ago of a Lpl Pals OSD clearly marked FIRMIN - which turned out to be Franks's !!

and
Yes, I will swallow my badges !

However, I still maintain that OR badges will not have gaps - it would be extra work / fretting at a time when manufacturers were busy enough with millions of badges to be made. So - SOME OSDs did have fretted legs!

I have a very nice OSD but I'd really like a marked one ..... !

Would you happen to have one or a picture to show Julian? As I mentioned, never ever seen one OSD or otherwise.

Given officers collars are identical to the cap badge (save the fixings) and even from the same die, I find it a bit odd that they would void the legs on some collars only.

Here is a poor shot of my OSD - it has been cut from a bigger 'photo with all my Lpl Pals.

I should photograph all of them again soon.
