Great badge, thanks for sharing, have you ever come across the enamelled officer ones?
Cheers

Cheers again

The rare Australian stuff can be expensive due to only a small amount of badges being made - the pre WW1 and pre WW2 militia officer badges as an example.

A beauty, Mick -- never seen one before. Love that motto, too!

Default 55/COLLINGWOOD Shoulder Title

Not being a collector of anything from Australia (the CEF being my main collecting area), does the shoulder title to this unit have much value?

I'd welcome some opinions from those far more knowledgeable in this area than myself.

Thanks,

Lovat

All the shoulder titles from this period are scarce. This one is 55/Collingwood. Most of the 1912-18 compulsory training militia badges were from Victoria whose regiments apparently competed with each other to have privately funded badges struck. Some regiments continued to wear their earlier 1903-12 regimental badges as most did not have a number on the badge. Most of the rest of the Australian Infantry regiments (numbered from 1 to 95 ) were content with government issue brass numerals worn on the front of the slouch hat and rising sun hat and collar badges. I have a picture of my father wearing a 32 numeral and have tried for years to find one. Some numbers were reserve and never raised so there is not a complete set numbered up to 95. I only have two or three of them.

I replied to a discussion on the Forum last year about the collar badge, which is a stag/Collingwood. Someone thought it was related to the Naval Division. It is still in the Forum archives somewhere.

Default 55 Officers Cap Numeral

I've had this photograph of an officer wearing a 55 numeral on his cap in my collection for some time.

Shows some of the diversity of badges worn in the day, regards Dennis

Attached is a photograph of the said '55/COLLINGWOOD' Shoulder Title. The lugs are original and sound.

Thoughts?

Regards,

Lovat

Default '55/COLLINGWOOD' Shoulder Title

Hi Chris,

At present I only have a photo of the shoulder title, but looking at the image I have I can't see any makers mark.
