Dominion of Canada Indians button
Hey everyone I am looking for some information on a button I found recently. The button maker is Smith&Wright and it also says Birmingham on the back.
The front of the button says Dominion of Canada Indians with a VR and crown of the top with 3 arrows, a bow and tomahawk. From what I can gather so far is that this type of button was on the coats given to Chiefs which signed the Numbered Treaties in Canada, the interesting thing about that fact is I found this not far from where the first Chief of Fort Alexander once lived. FB_IMG_1636562358752.jpg FB_IMG_1636562369931.jpg If anyone could help me identify these it would be much appreciated, also another thing, apparently there were two button makers who made this exact design. The one I have is Smith& Wright, the other I saw is made by Tait & Co. If there's anyone who can help sort that out thanks. |
