Default TANKER SUIT

Hi All. I am hoping that someone might be able to date this Tanker's Suit for me. (I only have this ONE picture, and do not have access to any marking that might be stamped inside). Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Many thanks.
Duncan

Default Tank Suit

Could be wartime, could also be post-WWII and the British made them into the mid-1950s. Tag is usually located on the inside sleeve cuff, I think, right side.

We were still wearing them in 1960 when I was the RHG but I can't say what the date of manufacture was.

Thank you, REMEVMBEA1. I know it is difficult to pin-point it with out an actual tag. I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Still being worn in the late 1970's, along with the Camo version.

We were issued them in the RAOC for wear on Eager Beaver Fork Trucks till at least 1980 - they were of 1950's manufacture and very warm. Replaced by the green waterproof version which were OK in the summer!

I got hold of a Black RAF Ground Crew Suit with 'fur' collar with was fuel & oil proof but great to wear.

As buttons appear to be brass and not painted i would guess its an early one. in the early 50's they switched to painted button snaps.

cheers
Chris

No one has ever been able to provide any war-time pictures of the camo version in use so if anyone does have any please post.

Default Camouflaged Tank Suit

Yes, wartime imagery of a Camouflaged Tank Suit in use would be nice to see. This goes well beyond a badge forum, but I would like to see some documentation as to why the camouflage version was ever manuafactured. Considering both the tan and camouflaged suits were manufactured at the same time (1944-45), I wonder why the resources were directed to this garment and how many were made.

Goes well beyond this forum but just opens this question up to a few more people. The question has been asked for years on different forums.

Hi, the use of the camo tank suit is dealt in depth on the onesixth forum. just google pixie tank suit. It does not mention that the tank suit was probably a development of the RAF Taylor suit. I nearly bought a very faded one as a tank suit variant, best wishes Mike
