Bugle ID?

Hello All,

Just acquired, appears Indian made. 52mm across, has significant age. Thoughts?

Bugles are the curse of the badge collector to identify IMO, used by Volunteer and regular units across the British and Empire armies on headdress, collars, shoulder titles and pouches. If they have a number on there is a chance of identification, but without, very little hope of exact identification.

Doesnt look British to me.
First glance said French or Belgian but that's just a stab.

I have a couple of items that have lugs similar to these. One King George III pouch badge and a Victorian Officers sebratatche badge.

The lugs are pretty typical of locally made [India, maybe Egypt] badges, back in the day and now. But I agree with Mike that this doesn't look like a British or Indian bugle.

And nothing says the Indian bazaar wallahs have to make Indian badges. God knows, they make enough fantasy pieces that knocking off a 'foreign' badge would be easy too. All they need, I assume, is one original to take a mould from.

And for sale to tourists, who cares what it really is? You make something up, or just shrug, and take their money!
