Default RM Capbadge advice

Dear members

I am about to start a collection of RM capbadges.

I have made a list of the RM badges i know of. If ive missed any please chime in, or with any other advice on the subject.

As the name suggests i'm not adverse to a good restrike. (but please no more negative vibes on that subject).

Thanks John

RM white helmet plate (will be my center badge)
SBS (cloth one of i can get it or the collar badge)
RMA (globe laurel & grenade)
RMLI
RM Labour Corps
Portsmouth band
Plymouth band (Think PofW feathers was officers only ?)
RM Band (globe laurel & lyre)

Its for an 'educational display' at my RM cadet unit.

Hi,

maybe add RM Engineers - the collar badge worn as a cap badge (with thanks to Alan O for this info)

Also, it's unlikely you will find a real RMLC; at least not cheaply, (4 voids), but you can get a million fake ones off eBay.

Cheers, Tim

Tim

Excuse my laziness, but have you got a picture of that RM eng collar ?

Thanks John

No Problem John,

I have an Album you can look at:

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=3715

Doesn't have everything you are looking for, but has a few.

Cheers, Tim

Default Display

If you want the display to tell a story of the Corps and, going by the badges you’ve listed, I am guessing circa 1900 onwards, I would suggest:

Queens Crown Helmet Plate central, RMA top left RMLI top right and plain globe & laurel top centre (this was initially the cap badge of 3 short lived WW1 units - RMLC, RME & RMSM)
Below the globe and laurel but above the Helmet Plate a Kings Crown cap badge (indicating the amalgamation of RMA & RMLI into the Corps as we know it today) and either side of the Helmet Plate a bronze and anodised Queens Crown cap Badge.
Below the Helmet Plate would be the area for band badges. In addition to the band ones you mention you might consider including the RMLICMB cap badge (identical to the RMLI cap badge but modern anodised). Likely to be of interest to cadets.

If you wanted to in the future you could do another display which looked at the evolution of the Commando element and that would likely be all cloth items & include SBS.

Yours Aye
Ray
P.S. I only have one album which is all RM

No that is RME as well. I have never seen one but it's likely that it is 2 part and made using a collar with a flame off a separate grenade.

John

No affiliation with the seller but just seen this listed on Ebay and it may just kick start your collection. A mixture of good and bad but if it is just a representative display then it may help. The globe and laurel looks like it could be white metal which would fill the gap for Royal Marine Police (unfortunately I would say it is a copy)
