Default Regimental Police

As far as I know units with Regimental Police NCO(s) on the Establishment invented their own distinctive brassards for those individuals. I doubt if there was any direction or guidance from on high. Hence the variety of styles and designs - usually incorporating the letters RP and the unit badge in some form.

The following were worn by members of the provost staff on the introduction of 'rank on the chest'.

Presumably the RA brassard was worn on the right arm, so that the gun "fires" forward. 54 Bty gives us the slides worn on the chest: therefore which way should the gun face?

There is a similar issue with the direction of the guns on the RA Master Gunner rank slides worn on the chest epaulette.
54Bty has the full story.

Tim

PS These are all now the "wrong" way!

During the reign of one of the Royal Artillery Sergeant Majors he decided that the gun worn as a part of a badge of rank on the chest should face the same direction as the gun on the cap badge, (the wearers right) and not as it would be worn on the right sleeve or cuff.

There a lot of different brassards worn by members of the Provost Staff in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Some include the regiments number in brass, or the title of the wearer PROVO SGT, also collar badges or beret badges.
