In reviewing the link on Pipers badges at the top of the forum home page I see an almost identical match for the green pipers badge I had posted. The main difference being the piece posted in the Pipers link has a wreath surrounding whereas mine does not

A fine haul of very aesthetic badges Jack, well done. Absolutely top quality on them.

A very interesting and educational thread thanks to the quality of items and expert identification. This sort of collaboration is what makes this forum so much better than others.

A few others from the show. Would the RAF VR piece be worn on a blazer or elsewhere? The Air Training badge based on size appears to be a collar piece. Thanks Jack

The RM Colour Sergeants badge has been trimmed to a shield shape and has stitching around the edge - probably trimmed down to be worn as a blazer badge rather than trimmed to a more convenient shape for display? |

The RAFVR badge is possibly a blazer badge and ATC stands for Air Training Corps not Transport. regards

Is the "shape" of the RM colour sergeants badge not as per this example - applied as an insert sewn into the seams of the sleeve (I have this one removed from tunic and two more sewn to tunics, retaining this shape).

I have found that RMLI & RMA Colour Sergeants badges were sewn directly in the material of the tunic sleeve and sleeves interchanged between uniforms and new Col. Sgts but after they became the RM then Col. Sgt badges tended to be a single badge sewn onto the sleeve.
However your RM badge does appear to be sewn as the earlier ones, possibly an early post 1923 badge. regards

Thanks for that - I didn't consider the possibility of the pre QEII insignia being produced as sew-on rather than "sew-in".
I like the insignia turning up on this thread. |
