Hi
Last button 2nd row has a naval coronet rather than the usual coronet. Must have some nautical connection. Cheers, Alex |

Hi btns,
Excellent research, I have been struggling with those. Weirdly enough, I also have the button with the "Naval" type crown (coronet) over a 2 (i.e. button 8.). Great news that you have identified this as belonging to the 2nd (Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot. Do you know when this pattern of button was worn? I have been through my books many times but couldn't find it. Many thanks for any help. Ian |

I dont think 8th button is The 2nd (Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot
all my references show this as having a normal QV Crown. I have 2 of the buttons with "marine" crown but havnt been able to id them yet. Gordon

naval crown + number 2
Hi,
My ID came from a long-time British collector. My small size button has a backmark ca. 1900 (+/- 20 years) Parkyn, page 74 - badge section: "A naval crown superscribed "1st June 1794", authorized in 1909 to commemorate the regiment's service under Lord Howe a his victory on the 1st June, 1794. That year the official button design was changed to include the naval crown, The pre-1881 buttons indeed have a QVC (queen victoria's crown) over a number 2. regards, btns, |

West Surrey Buttons
Ist button 2nd Regiment of foot pre-1881, as I would expect with QVC.
2nd button. The Queens [Royal West Surrey] Pre 1909, But with KC, post 1903. 3rd button. Queens Royal regt [West Surrey] 1909-1959. 4th button. Probably as above but not sure as or where it was worn as it shows "Naval" crown as does number 3. I think this verifies your id from earlier in the thread. Could this have been worn by 1st Battalion only ? Gordon
