No 12 Commando badges
Hello there,
Today I was given these 3 cloth badges from an old lady. She said they belonged to her late husband from WW2. Firstly are they original and are they common or rare?

Dave,
The printed titles are very scarce, the embroidered is rare, 12 Commando disbanded and were dispersed to other Commando units in 1943. Paul |

They look good and are rare -
The back of the printed ones should be red and have 'bleed through' of letters (ie Shadowing to reverse) The TWELVE title is also of high value Do not let these go cheaply - you have three treasures there and are lucky to have been given them by a widow. PM me if you wish Mike |

Wonderful pieces. If possible you should try and get some information regarding her husbands service.

Dave,
We are always told to invest in the badges and not the story when it comes to rare badges, but in this case I am pretty confident that these badges and the story are the real thing. We see so many fakes of SF badges on here sold as real and its lovely to see badges that are real and with provenence. I am not an SF badge expert but do collect cloth and these look real. The rear photos should confirm that. As I read it 12 Commando managed to have 4 different patterns of shoulder titles in its short lifetime. You have one example of the rare first pattern, Yellow on Blue TWELVE badge and 2 examples of the 4th and final pattern, the printed Red on Blue No 12 COMMANDO pattern. As has been said it f possible could you give us the mans name and if known Regiment and ideally service number which you may have obtained from the widow. The SF badge collectors on here are very knowledgable and may be able to give you some service/personal details. regards

First of all can I thank you all for your time to help with the post. I've had a good few private messages, and I will answer them all today.
Simon, I don't want to give recipients details just yet because there is other stuff. However I can tell you one of his medals is named RAMC 'hence the book I think' I've added a couple more pictures of the badges, and the other items that cane with them

Dave,
Nice to see the other items and I wish you luck getting the medals etc, it's great to see these groups with the items altogether when they turn up, many are hidden in collections after quickly changing hands when they surface. Their history and value should never be under estimated. Great to see and thanks for sharing. Paul |
