Default Hello everyone

Hi, joined a few days ago and have been having a good look round. I am not a collector but joined because I have an interest in the badges and insignia of the Royal Artillery. As well as being an ex-Gunner (1962-81), I run a website on the RA in WW2.

You will no doubt see a few requests from me soon and if I can help with any background info on RA units I will do so.

Derek

Hi Derek,

Welcome to the forum!

I'd be very interested in having a look at your website, could you post a link please.

I personally am interested in the numerous WW2 Gunner units that were re-roled from Territorial infantry Bns.

Spurred by my Grandfathers' service and also the units that took part in the Defence of Calais.

Please have a look at the following threads if you have time.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=12000

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=11294

Any positive input would be welcome on this interest.

Shame that you are not at present a badge collector but I can see the attraction of the forum nonetheless.

I'm sure your input will be gratefully accepted and valued by many on the forum and I'll wager that some encouragement will come your way for you to start a modest RA collection!!!

I hope you enjoy your time on here as much as I do, some good lads here!

Regards
Ry

Hi Gunner, I think I've accessed your website a number of times as there's not many that deal with the RA in WW2. My grandfather was a gunner in India and Burma during WW2 (ended up as A/Bdr). My mother in England has a photo of him in 286 Bty/77 LAA Regt. Next time I'm over I'll try to borrow it and scan it. He was also on coastal batteries in the west of England prior to being shipped overseas, in Tenby, St.Ives, and I forget where else. He was in the 7th Indian Divn of the 14th Army in Burma. I'd like to put together a display of the various insignia he would've worn on his various postings. I have various RA cap and beret badges, a shoulder flash, SEAC badge, 14th Army, but none of the divisional flashes he would've worn on the various AA batteries. That'll be one of my projects now I'm newly retired - until my wife finds other things for me to do, that is! Cheers, David

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Ry my website is http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
It is far from complete, in fact I doubt it will ever be finished as I am always finding new information.

I have a small library of RA books including a few unit histories - far more information than I am able to put on my site so if anyone wants more information on any WW2 RA unit just ask.

I must thank 54Bty for solving some of my enquiries already via his albums although I do have one or two more to ask.

tynesideirish - end of mission

Thanks Derek,

of course I have seen your website. Badge guru Voltigeur kindly pointed me in its direction as shown in the thread refering to my Grandfather's service.

There is a lot of valuable info there, very useful.
Regards
Ry

Hi Derek, welcome aboard! Perhaps you can shed some light on the mysterious unofficial "RA anti tank" shoulder title.

Hi Derek

I am astonished to find that the 153 & 154 (Leicestershire PAO Yeomanry) Field Regiments RA are not in the WW2 Yeomanry section of your excellent website

If you need any info then let me know

Lots of info and pics here ----> http://www.paoyeomanry.co.uk/LY9.htm

Thanks again for the welcome.

Luc, I'm afraid the anti-tank titles are a mystery to me also.

Griff, if you go to the second page ("more" button at the bottom) of the converted Yeomanry section of my site you will see them.

Hi

Welcome to the Forum. My family have been Norfolk Yeoman. Could help you with info and pics connected with 65th Anti Regt RA KORR Norfolk Yeomanry. Grandad (259 Bty - Swaffham) saw action in France with the BEF (evacuated Bray Dunes) then with the MEF in N Africa and ended up a POW.

All the best.

Hoolyboy
