It is as rare as rocking horse droppings. 101 was the founding unit for what is now the Special Boat Service.

Strange that you should mention the badge only a fortnight ago I was talking to a dealer who told me his friend in a house clearance uncovered two original 101 badges, one in near mint and another very worn. Sounds very much like the badges you are describing here. Apparently the family didnt even realise what 101 Troop was.

As for value I would suggest you consult Bosleys as that is the only place I can recall an example being sold in their postal auction.

I would hazard a guess at one good looking, good condition example having a value of around 2000 pounds. So its a good job your name is Rich

Promising Rich but rather poor, does your camera have a close up function? Sometimes a button with a tulip icon?

Hi there I'd like to know what makes you think it's 1970s as I know the family member it came from he used to collect special forces Militaria and I didn't say before but I have got a middle east commando dagger 3 3rd pat fs knives 1 wood handled fs knife full set of 37 pat web marked up 18th para post war 5 dif maker marked m3 fighting knives 1 USn mk 2 knife 2 Nazi lufty 2nd pat 1 nskk 1 hj knife all original that's what really started me off collecting I didn't want to say to much before about the items I had off him as it might of come across as trying to show off. Right getting back to the subject in hand I took it to 5 or 6 I can't remember dealers at the war and peace show and all said it looked right 2 offered me money for it thanks in advance rich

My view is it is a repro too Peter. Backing looks very suspect. A lot of repro stuff was collected in the 60s and 70s and has become ORIGINAL. I dont have a real one to compare it too but I am certain you have seen enough to be 100% certain
