Gilt is most likely post WW2, and bronze is WW1 era.

Hi Billy,
The gilt badge is possibly for an officer of the permanent Royal New Zealand Artillery in undress from about 1911 until 1949, although there may be some gaps in that period, and worn by both permanent and territorial officers of RNZA after that until the crown was gradually replaced during the 1950s by a St Edwards crown. The bronzed badge was worn by Territorial officers of the New Zealand Artillery from about 1911 up until 1949 when the permanent RNZA and the part-time NZA amalgamated as the RNZA as they are today. However, it appears both badges were in use prior to 1911, the “RNZA” gun badge being worn by the NZ Permanent artillery/ Garrison Artillery and the “NZ” gun badge being worn by the Garrison Artillery, but that is a story for another day. So, the question is, can these badges “be assessed to give a time in usage?” The NZ 1912 Dress regulations allow for an Artillery officers “Full Dress” and “Blue serge Frock” that badges in “brass or gilt” are to be worn. The following two pictures shows my brass Gaunt made RNZA (raised wheel) badge that is WW1 period, and as can be seen is very different when viewing the back of Billy’s Gaunt made RNZA badge.
