Admiralty Constabulary repos
Would I be right in assuming that the Admiralty Constabulary badge is widely reproduced/faked? because I have seen quite a few kc winged versions at low prices, with what looks to be dubious quality voiding, and also a solid centered non enameled star version. I thought all admiralty badges were voided? and the star shape enameled. Sorry should have said Air Ministry in title also

I'm not aware that there were any issued Admiralty Constabulary solid centre cap badges. Those which frequently appear are repros. These are invariably in the design of the QC star version. The metal is coated with a very thin chrome plating and is not voided. Avoid at all costs.
The Air Ministry KC winged cap badge is also being reproduced. These are more difficult to detect. Generally, the issued versions show wear to the chroming. Stay away from any brass or gold coloured examples. They are certainly reproductions. I will try to upload a photo of those genuine examples I have. Dave. |

Re the Air Ministry Constabulary, there are several types out there. The senior officers (bullion) is now reproduced, but for some reason in gold, so avoid them. Plastic, steel (unvoided) and white metal versions are okay. You can also occasionally find odd ones such as cast examples (unvoided) which are okay.
The chromed, voided ones are the ones widely reproduced. Like many chrome badges its hard to date them or to differentiate just from a photo. But if you can see it in person, the copies are usually thin and rather 'tinny' the originals more solid with weight to them. |
