Post Mil Col badge on mace

I researched the Royal Roads Military College mace, which features the College emblem, for e-veritas, the RMC Club alumni journal. I am interested in learning more about maces in general, and those maces featuring the emblems of the Canadian Military Colleges in particular.

The Royal Roads University Foundation has been preparing for the Homecoming event in September. This year’s homecoming reception on Friday Aug 19th recognized the donation of a historically significant item from Royal Roads’ illustrious past – the RRMC Mace. Caroline Posynick, the RRU archivist and e-veritas contributorprovided a photo of the RRMC mace in 1978. The RRMC mace is on ‘permanent loan’ to RRU from the Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum.
On 9 September, during homewoming weekend the repatriation ceremony for the RRMC Mace will be held at 19:30 hrs at the rear of Quarterdeck. The mace symbolizes the authority of the College, as granted in the name of the Sovereign (currently Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II). When carried into the ceremony and placed on stage, the mace signals the opening of the convocation. The design incorporates elements of the historical significance of Hatley Castle, history, academic direction and vision of Royal Roads Military College. http://everitas.rmcclub.ca/

Default RRMC mace

The mace's four sides commemorate the sequence of institutions at Royal Roads: HMCS Royal Roads, 1940-'42; the Royal Canadian Naval College, 1942-'47; the Royal Canadian Navy - Royal Canadian Air Force Joint Services College, 1947-'48; the Canadian Services College Royal Roads, 1948-'68; and the Royal Roads Military College, 1968-'95. It was made prior to the first graduating class from Royal Roads Military College in May 1977. It was last used at the RRMC masters convocation in 1995.

The photo features the mace with 9318 Capt(N) Dave Bindernagel (RRMC 1972), the last commandant and 3237 Doctor John Mothersill (RMC 1954), the last principal of Royal Roads Military College.
