Default Skinners' School OTC

Thought I'd share this recent acquisition; a unit scarcely seen in print I'd imagine - Skinners' School OTC:

Had trouble initially identifying the cap badge but think I have nailed it, especially in light of the photographer's stamp on the reverse: 'S. Payne Jenkins' of Tunbridge Wells.

Incidentally, there is a photo of the Skinners' School taken by 'S. Payne Jenkins' HERE

Regards,

JT

Default Skinners'

HI JT,
Thanks for the memories of my old school. The Worshipful Company of Skinners have a lot to answer for.
By the way I don't recognize any of the people in the photograph!!
All the best,
Alan

Alan,

Was there a cadet unit during your time at the school?

My understanding is that the Anglo-Saxon Fyrd was divided up into two distinct classes... but that still leaves one Fyrd unaccounted for!

Default Skinners

JT
When I was there in the very early sixties, the CCF paraded on Thursday afternoons. Everybody came to school in uniform on that day. The officers were all masters. The RSM doubled up as the school caretaker for the rest of the week. Some of the 'troops' carried 303 rifles. There was a rifle range on the school grounds, very close to the band room. The band consisted of drums & bugles only. There was one 'army' lorry that transported everyone around, it took the kit to summer camp.
Fortunately, I was in the scouts. There were only 50 or 60 of us in 2 troops, everyone else was doing drill in the CCF on the back 'parade' ground. We were in the Gym (in the dry!!).
We had a tough life, we all went to school on Saturday mornings & played inter-school sports on Saturday afternoons. A six day week!!
All the best,
Alan
