"Don't suppose anyones got any idea what badge No7 is yet have they."

I read the cypher as "VRI" - Victoria Regina Imperatrix - so possibly QVO Corps of Guides or the 3rd Bombay Cavalry: both used "QVO" after 1911 and right up through to 1947. There are a number of "Queen's Own" regiments too. The crown is odd though, so not at all sure.

I have looked into the crown before relating to other badges, I think it is Princess Caroline consorts crown. consort to George II princess of Wales. it appeared on the great war forum as a rank insignia over two stripes on a period picture and also on the 7th Hussars badge, It may have been worn by various units in India , Unfortunately I don't have a Victorian dress regulations India which may provide an answer. That is really odd! Indian units were few and far between in George II's time and weren't under the British military but raised by the Honourable East india Company. Also, "The XXX's Own" titles don't appear until fairly late in the Victorian era, so maybe this one is an off make British badge instead?

Yes it is odd, I can't truly get to the bottom of it but I have a feeling that the crown may have been passed down and then gained an association with Victoria in some way.

I might be barking up the wrong tree . This one might just be a stylised version of the Imperial crown of India made for George V as the crown jewels could not leave Britain. If this is the case assuming the badge is Army and not Civil and bearing in mind the notes in Dress regulations India , it could be a badge for a
(Queen Victoria's Own ) Regiment.
