I recently purchased an identical Kilmarnock, I was confident that it was Gurkha related thanks to sites like this (scroll down a bit), this and Jerry's example here.
It is good to hear that the 8th GR badge is wrong, so now I have to find a proper badge for it. |

8th Gurkhas cap badge
Thought this may be of interest, picked op this morning.
8th Gurkhas cap badge, looks theatre made and has the void under the "8". Has anyone come across this type before? Cheers Tony.

Certainly theatre made if good and nothing obviously wrong about it to me, but I'll leave any real conclusions to the Gurkha mavins. I don't see enough of the stuff 'in the flesh' anymore to have worthwhile opinions on it.

Hi Tony, I'm pretty sure it's genuine - although it may well be post 1947 - (i.e Indian Army ) - they're quite difficult to date . The fact that it's got the kukris left over right means it's more likely to be after 1935 - ( but that's by no means definitive ) - there's an example illustrated in the museums book on the insignia of the regt - (8GR D20) - that looks very close to your badge - it measures 37mm high and 42mm wide. Hope this helps. Tim
