V FORCE - Fascinating Item
Given the very high quality of recent threads in this section of the forum, I am prompted to share the attached. At first, the badge may not appear 'convincing'. However - reference to Cole 'Formation Badges of World War Two' page 97 makes reference to this badge. This form of jungle headdress is believed not to be common with a date of 1945, and interestingly the faint outline of an officers name in the cap (Capt Brown) correlates with a member of Force 136 I believe. Records suggest V Force existed from 1 April 1942 to 15 January 1946.
A written record of this badge appears as early as 1947, in 'Heraldry in War' by H Cole - see page 148 Any thoughts welcome. I will add images of a couple of other V Force items for reference, although they came from separate sources. Last edited by Mike B; 15-07-18 at 04:59 PM. |

I am pleased you like it Greg - the 'cloth' headdress badge was a pattern I had completely overlooked

Thanks for the kind thoughts and very useful information - it is always good to learn more. I hope other V Force items get added to the thread with information such as that posted by Thomas too. I believe the 1945 dated cap can be quite expensive in its own right, and begin to understand why.

I thought it might be helpful to post an image of the maker label / date for the bush hat in post 1. Apologies for poor quality image but hoping it is useful.
Mike I hope this link works - it shows J Collett previously retailed Slouch hats among other military headdress https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=j+...hrome&ie=UTF-8 Here is a useful site on the subject https://hatchfive.wordpress.com/2015...rn-jungle-hat/ Last edited by Mike B; 27-07-18 at 06:20 AM. |
