'Never attribute to malice [or whimsy] what can be explained by stupidity' or the random workings of the universe. There was for some years, several decades ago, at least one 'Indian Army' badge to the '39th Gurkhas' floating about the collecting world. It's genesis was this: a 1930's issue of the Indian Army dress regulations had a typo and listed the '39th' GR instead of the correct '3/9th' and some earnest metal worker in a bazaar in the sub-continent earnestly copied that error into reality.

Excellent! Puts me in mind of the article in Soldier Magazine one April (back in the 1980s perhaps) reporting that the titles of "fractional cavalry" were to be decimalised - 14/20 H being retitled 0.7 H etc. An example of a metal title was shown. Mike

"14/20 H being retitled 0.7 H"

One must, after all, stay abreast of the times.

Unless one is the Britsh Army!

No, Tim, no holes whatever left by a possible metal title
