Denbighshire Hussars c1914?
What do you think...........Denbighshire Hussars c1914?
or Wiltshire Yeomanry full brass issue? (I dont mind either way)

Denbighshire Hussars
Back in the 1960's I bought the same badge Denbighshire Hussars for 4/6 (23p) in today's money from the curator of a military museum, he had a good knowledge of badges. K&K have this being worn c1917 which would make this an economy issue.

Gaylor says "Bronzed" but Wilkinson has it as "Brass"...... I think it was always one colour until becoming the Caernarvon & Denbighsire Yeomanry after WW1? My only doubt is the scrolls...... the Wilts Yeo scrolls are normally more horizontal. Wlikinsons book has different scrolls to Gaylors for the DH..... so its hard to conifrm either way? It would be interesting to see a Scanned Pic of the K&K DH badge....... also if its Bz or B in K&K?

IMO I don't believe in the Wiltshire all brass issue theory. I have read their regtl history and cannot find any evidence in pictures of its use. It could be the bronzed Denbighshire Yeo badge but the feathers and scrolls are different. It has an uncanny rersemblance to the 15th Prince of Wales Civil Service Rifles Bn of the London Regt which was in blackened brass.

Having worked with the Wiltshire "A" Squadron and been to both their Mess's..... I dont remember ever seeing a full brass badge in their displays. But it might be they simply didnt have the badge for display?
Maybe Gordon has an example ... of a DH badge from the Great War? Also, there does appear to be a few variations for the POW Badge for the Wilts...... I have pictured examples of very upright scrolls on modern and c1950's badges....... yet "the books" show very horizontal scrolls?

There are 2 distinct types of badge. In the Regtl history they show the Officers wearing the upright scrolls badge which also has proportionally larger feathers. This is the design worn recently in a/a. The regt seem to have adopted the Offr design for ORs wear after WW2 as did many other Yeo regts.
Prior to his a/a badge the design was the usual bi-metal POW feathers which is the same design (but without a scroll) as the Welsh/Welch regt, 10th Hussars, 3 DG etc. It is also used by several regts as a collar badge. Consequently I do not know of any way of positively IDing a Wilts Yeo badge from a lugged collar or a cap badge that has lost its scroll (unless ther is some residue left there).
