Question 3rd Carabiniers Officer's Badge?

I just received some British Officer badges and I need help with this one.

This 3rd Carabiniers badge appears to be an Officer's pattern. Does anyone know that the "P" on the reverse side means?DSC_0793.jpg

The "P" means it played rather than of solid silver.
(Oops, that's already stated).

Its seems to be an unusually high quality badge with the maker stampings applied by hand. Ok I won't question the feedback but why would a maker put a plated stamp on a badge?
