1st Canadian Army insignia
There exist at least two sizes of the 1st Canadian Army formation patch. The smaller patch is the standard size found for the WW2 issue. The larger one is a bit of a mystery. One explanation was that the larger patch was worn by elements of the Canadian army that were in the NATO deployment to Europe in the 1950's - 1960's. However the provenance on this armlet was that it was a RCAPC corporal who left the army in 1945. This may or may not be correct, as the spelled out RCAPC title does not appear to have been issued until the summer of 1945. The armlet is a made up one and not the issue pattern made for the shirt sleeve wear in the 1950's.
Does anyone have a definitive answer about the existence of the two sizes of patches for the 1st Canadian Army? |

Hi Bill. Is it just possible the the RCOC had so many of the war-time patches in their stores (and everybody knows that the army likes to keep things a long time) that when an order was placed for the larger post-war patches and they were received by the RCOC, they just ended up being mixed together and issued to whoever needed/wanted them???
