Default 1970s/80s UN Mission related Canadian bringback ID request

Bought this recently from a retired Navy tailor (the last one at Naden, retired circa 1985); someone gave it to him around that time.

,

Clearly not official issue; appears "theatre-made" with that safety-pin back. But is it some local outfit that wished to appear badass, or something that our guys had made up for some in-joke/commemoration/private reason?

Anyone recognize it? It came along with a 73 SVC BN shield and a very early-looking STANAVFORLANT badge, but then he had all sorts of things going back to the 50s, having been a tailor.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This is a Syrian badge, it comes in various colours denoting a particular Fa'uj or Special Forces Brigade. Most commonly known as a commando qualification badge. There is also a shoulder patch with same design and skull, and another of the same shape with five pointed stars that may denote rank, although this is not very clearly identified so it may be conjecture.

These are relatively common, found all over Lebanon. Many PLO terrorists wore these badges as they were trained at various Syrian training camps. Some especially the "Young Lions" or child guerillas affected these to appear more "tough".

Thanks Flatdog; I thought that it was likely something that one of our guys brought back from a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East.
